The Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering is a non-profit institution, dedicated to ICT research. Its mission is to develop tomorrow’s technologies by excelling in research today. It consists of over 70 staff members – mostly university professors – and numerous post-graduate students. In the last 5 years, INESC-ID has generated over 1000 scientific papers in journals and international conferences, dozens of industrial prototypes and computer systems based on state-of-the-art technologies, and a number of patents and awards. The Spoken Language Systems Lab L2F of INESC-ID includes around 30 researchers, consisting of professors (7), IST (Instituto Superior Tecnico) graduate students, post-docs (3), and guest researchers from other universities (3). This strongly interdisciplinary group is actively involved in many areas of spoken language R&D, such as speech recognition and synthesis, audio indexation, multimodal dialogue systems, language and dialect identification, speech-to-speech machine translation (S2SMT), and computer-assisted language learning (CALL).
